Thrissur is also considered as a cultural capital of Kerala “God’s own Country” and is renowned for eminent and stunning Pooram Festival. Thrissur is beautifully carrying and preserves the rich culture and heritage and is a home to many important cultural centers such as Kalamandalam Sangeet Nataka and Sahithya Academy. From several years, Thrissur has preserved the archaeological wealth and culture and plays an important role in the political history of Kerala. Thrissur is situated around small hills and had been molded by many rulers like Tipu Sultan even by the Dutch. The existing architecture of Thrissur had been done by Sakthan Thampuran who transformed Thrissur to a commercial centre. Thrissur is also referred to as “Pooram City”. Thrissur is also an abode of Nestorian Christian community which dates back to 3rd century AD. A visit to Thrissur should be planned from November to May as this is the period of festivals in Thrissur.
